Grace's Fund was first launched to raise money for my operation. Now I need to raise lots of money to pay for my ongoing intensive physiotherapy and other medical aids to help me on my way. Please look around my website to find out more about my story, the fund and watch the videos of my progress.
My name is Grace Windram. I have a neurological condition called Cerebral Palsy which causes muscle tightness and impacts the way I move my legs. At the age of 5, I was fully reliant on a powered wheelchair to move myself around, and doctors said I would never walk. Then in January 2012, on the day I turned 5-and-a-half, I had a life-changing operation that has given me hope.
I flew to the USA for the procedure called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) at St. Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri. Now two years on I can walk confidently with tripod walking sticks, and in April 2014 I took my first two unaided steps! This has been made possible bythe operation combined with a lot of physiotherapy (and determination).
